The short version. We collect what we need to introduce you to compatible people nearby and keep the community safe — your name, email, profile details, your answers to the values quiz, your photos, and an approximate location. We do not sell your data, we do not run ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
You can delete your account and your data at any time from inside the app, or from our account deletion page.
This Privacy Policy explains how Egurus Pty Ltd (ABN registered in Australia) ("Snimbl", "we", "us") handles your personal information when you use the Snimbl mobile app and this website (together, the "Service").
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Some small businesses are exempt from the Privacy Act; we have chosen to comply with the APPs regardless of whether that exemption applies to us.
Snimbl is operated by Egurus Pty Ltd, a company registered in Australia and based in Victoria. Snimbl is an invite-only, adults-only (18+) app for making platonic friendships. It is not a dating service.
For any privacy question or request, contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@snimbl.com.
If you sign in with Apple or Google, that provider gives us your name and email address only. Apple only supplies your name on your very first sign-in, so we store it at that point. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email" feature, we receive a relay address and never see your real one. We do not receive your contacts, friends list, or any other data from these providers.
We do not use your personal information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you. Compatibility scores are suggestions only.
This matters more than most privacy questions, so we are explicit about it. Other members of Snimbl can see:
Private notes you write about another member, and any ratings you give, are visible only to you. Reports you submit are visible only to us — we do not tell the person you reported who reported them.
Photos you upload are stored in a publicly-addressable location. That means anyone who has the direct link to an image file can view it without logging in. Please do not upload photographs containing information you would not want seen outside the app.
Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. They are encrypted in transit and at rest by our hosting provider, but they are stored in a form we can access — which is what allows us to investigate reports of harassment. Treat Snimbl messages as private but not secret.
We do not sell your personal information, and we never have. We share it only with the service providers we need to run Snimbl, and only for that purpose:
| Provider | What they handle | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Our database, authentication, file storage and backend. Holds essentially all of your account data. | Singapore |
| Sightengine | Automated screening of uploaded photos for explicit content. Each photo you upload is sent for analysis before it is stored. | France / EU |
| Expo | Push notification delivery and app updates. Receives your push token and the notification's content (sender name and a message preview). | United States |
| Sentry | Crash and error reporting. Receives your account's internal ID number (not your name or email), device and app details, and IP address. | United States |
| Resend | Delivery of account emails such as sign-up confirmations and password reset codes. Receives your email address. | United States |
| Apple, Google | Sign-in (if you choose it) and delivery of push notifications to your device. | United States |
We may also disclose personal information where we reasonably believe it is necessary to: comply with a law, court order or regulator; respond to a valid request from law enforcement; enforce our Terms; or protect the safety of any person — including reporting a serious threat.
If Snimbl is ever sold or merged, your information may be transferred to the buyer as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
As set out above, some of our providers store or process personal information outside Australia — principally in Singapore, the United States and the European Union. By using Snimbl you consent to this disclosure. We take reasonable steps to ensure our providers handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, but we cannot guarantee that overseas recipients will be subject to privacy laws equivalent to Australia's, and Australian regulators may not be able to enforce against them.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information: data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest, your login session is stored in your device's secure keystore, and database access is restricted by row-level security rules so that members can only read what they are entitled to.
No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
You can, at any time:
We will not charge you for making a request, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
Snimbl is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a member is under 18, we will terminate the account and delete the information. If you believe a minor is using Snimbl, please contact safety@snimbl.com immediately. See also our Child Safety Standards.
We may update this policy as the app changes. If we make a change that materially affects how we handle your personal information, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
